The banquet master remarks that the groom has reversed the normal custom — serving the finest wine last rather than first, after guests' palates are dulled.

The steward's observation functions as unwitting theological commentary: God saves the best for last. The new covenant wine (grace through Christ) surpasses the old covenant provision.
