Near the place where Jesus was crucified, there was a garden with a brand-new tomb where no one had ever been laid. It was waiting for Him.
A new tomb for a new beginning. No one had been buried there before—this tomb was reserved for the most important burial in history.
John describes the garden tomb.
In a garden near the cross sits a brand-new tomb. It's never been used. It feels like it was prepared for this very moment—because it was.
John notes that near the crucifixion site was a garden containing a new, unused tomb where no one had previously been buried.
The new tomb fulfills the requirement of ceremonial purity—an unused tomb ensures no contact with previous remains. The garden setting creates a literary inclusio with the garden of Gethsemane and may echo Eden, where death entered through the first garden.
