John 15:4, in plain English

Significance

Jesus issues the foundational command of the vine metaphor: remain in Me. The relationship is mutual ('I will remain in you') but requires human cooperation. Just as a branch cannot produce fruit apart from the vine, no spiritual productivity is possible apart from ongoing union with Christ.
