Jesus doesn't explain everything to Peter in that moment. He simply says, 'Trust Me. You'll understand later.' It is a beautiful reminder that when God does something you don't understand, He is not asking you to figure it out; He is asking you to trust Him.

Jesus acknowledges Peter's present confusion but promises future understanding. 'Now' (arti) contrasts with 'later' (meta tauta), pointing to post-resurrection comprehension through the Spirit.

Language and setting

This echoes the theme of delayed understanding in John 12:16. Full comprehension of Jesus' actions and teachings comes only after His glorification and the Spirit's coming.
