He was with God from the very start — before anything was created.
John repeats this to make sure you don't miss it: Jesus has always been with the Father. Their relationship didn't begin at Christmas — it has no beginning.
John emphasizes the same truth again, driving it home.
Some truths are so important they need to be said twice. Jesus didn't show up at some point in history — He was there at the beginning of everything.
John reaffirms that the Word was with God 'in the beginning,' emphasizing both the Word's eternal pre-existence and distinct personhood within the Godhead.
This verse counters any Arian reading that the Word came into being at some point. The repetition of 'in the beginning' reinforces the co-eternality of the Word with the Father.
