The medieval commentator David Kimchi (Radak) observed that this phrasing suggests Job must brace himself not for punishment but for profound truth-telling. The interrogative structure that follows ('I will question you, and you shall inform Me') reverses the expected dynamic: God becomes the questioner, Job the responder.
