The firstborn twin son of Isaac and Rebekah, a skilled hunter and outdoorsman. Esau famously sold his birthright to Jacob for a bowl of stew, despising his spiritual inheritance for a momentary pleasure. He later lost his father’s blessing through Jacob and Rebekah’s deception, weeping bitterly. Despite his rivalry with Jacob, the brothers eventually reconciled. Esau became the ancestor of the Edomites, settling in the hill country of Seir.
