The eighth son of Jacob, born to Zilpah, Leah’s handmaid. Jacob blessed Asher saying his food would be rich and he would provide delicacies fit for a king. The tribe settled in the fertile coastal region of northern Israel. The prophetess Anna, who recognized the infant Jesus in the temple, belonged to the tribe of Asher.

Children born in rivalry and heartbreak. But these names — Reuben, Judah, Joseph — will become the twelve tribes of a nation.
Asher’s food will be rich; he shall provide royal delicacies.
