Paul is driving home the inseparability of death and resurrection. You can't have one without the other. And since his readers have already been united with Christ's death, resurrection life is already theirs.

This represents the already-not-yet structure of Pauline eschatology: believers have already died and risen with Christ (sacramentally and pneumatologically), yet full manifestation of resurrection life awaits the parousia. This paradox drives the ethical exhortations that follow.
