The term σῶμα (sōma) here means not just the physical frame but embodied existence as the locus where decisions are made and power is exercised. The phrase νεκρὸν ὑμῶν (nekron hēmōn)—'mortal'—acknowledges that despite Christian transformation, believers still inhabit mortal flesh subject to corruption. Lust (ἐπιθυμία) is not external temptation but the internalized desire of flesh oriented toward sin. This presupposes an ongoing struggle, not effortless victory.
