The phrase 'heart of wisdom' (לְבַב חָכְמָה, levav chochmah) reflects the Hebraic conception of wisdom (חָכְמָה, chochmah) not as theoretical knowledge but as proper ordering of life according to divine reality. This verse initiates the psalm's movement toward petition, as the psalmist recognizes that intellectual understanding of mortality must precede spiritual transformation.
