The psalmist feels like he's being counted among the dying, like he's already lost all his strength and vitality.
He's not just sick or tired—he's describing a complete loss of identity and power. The 'Pit' is another name for Sheol, the grave. He's been marked, categorized, already written off by society.

When the Bible talks about being 'without strength,' it's not just physical weakness—it's spiritual and social powerlessness. Job experienced this same loss of standing among his community.
The speaker identifies himself among those already counted among the dying, comparing his present weakness to those already consigned to the grave.
The phrase 'counted among' (נמנה, nimna) suggests social and theological classification — he is no longer reckoned among the living community. 'Without strength' (בלי־כח, bli-koach) uses a privative construction emphasizing complete depletion of vital force. This is the language of social death preceding physical death: the living have already relegated him to the category of the departed.

In the biblical worldview, one's continued existence depended on remembrance and integration within the community of the living. This verse foreshadows the cosmic problem the psalmist will articulate later: if he enters Sheol, he becomes utterly forgotten, beyond the reach of divine remembrance.

3For my soul is full of troubles, and my life draws near to Sheol.

5I am forsaken among the dead, like the slain who lie in the grave, whom You remember no more, who are cut off from Your care.
6You have laid me in the lowest Pit, in the darkest of the depths.
