David expresses his confidence: God is his protector, and He saves people whose hearts are genuinely devoted to Him.
After all his desperate begging and self-examination, David settles into trust. He knows that God protects the righteous. He's placing himself in that category—not perfectly, but genuinely.

This is the turning point in the psalm. The psalmist moves from terror to trust, which is the pattern throughout the Bible when people truly encounter God's faithfulness.

The noun magen (מגן), 'shield,' carries both literal and metaphorical weight in biblical thought—it denotes the warrior's protection and, by extension, divine protection. The phrase 'my shield is with God' (magni al-elohim, מגני על־אלהים) is an assertion of relational security. The 'upright in heart' (yesharim-lev, ישרים־לב) returns to the anthropological vocabulary of verses 8-9: those whose inner orientation is toward covenant loyalty receive God's protection. This verse crystallizes the psalm's theodicy: righteousness is not merely vindicated in judgment but protected throughout existence.
