Fight My Battles
Awake and rise to my defense, to my cause, my God and my Lord! Psalm 35:23 · Berean Standard Bible
David is pleading with God to wake up, stand up, and actively fight for him and his cause.
The language here is intense and almost physical—'awake and rise.' David needs God to move, to take action, to stop the enemies from destroying him. When you're in genuine crisis, you don't pray politely; you pray urgently, and David does exactly that.

This anticipates how God's people will later pray in times of genuine emergency—calling on God to 'awake' is a way of saying, 'I need your active power right now, not just your awareness.' It shows that prayer in Scripture includes raw honesty about our needs.
