For You welcomed him with rich blessings; You placed on his head a crown of pure gold. Psalm 21:3 · Berean Standard Bible
God received the king with generosity and honor, literally placing a crown of gold on his head—a symbol of his authority and God's blessing. The image is one of rich welcome and celebration.
This likely refers to the king's coronation or to God's continued blessing on his reign. In the ancient Near East, a crown wasn't just decoration—it was the visible sign that you ruled with divine approval. Everyone who saw this crown would understand: God chose this man.
The psalmist, describing the honor and blessing God bestowed on the king.
This points to how God establishes His chosen leaders and surrounds them with visible marks of His favor. Later, the ultimate King—Jesus—wears a crown of gold, but He also wears a crown of thorns, showing that God's blessing sometimes looks different than we expect.

The image of qədēšet zahāb (crown of pure gold) references the actual regalia of Judean and Israelite monarchs, archaeological and textual evidence suggesting crowns were indeed part of coronation ceremonies. The verb qiddamtô (You welcomed him) carries the sense of meeting someone with lavish provision; it appears in Isaiah 21:14 describing abundance. This verse captures the theology embedded in the coronation ritual itself.
