Language and setting

The verb למד, lamad ('to train' or 'to teach') applies both to pedagogical instruction and to disciplined practice. The psalmist's hands are trained for קרב, qarav ('battle' or 'combat'). The bronze bow (קשת נחושת, qeshet nechoshet) represents particularly demanding weaponry—bronze bows required tremendous strength to draw, and their mastery indicated elite warrior status. The parallelism between hands and arms creates a comprehensive image of embodied military skill. This verse shifts from the metaphorical to the concrete: God has actually transformed the psalmist into an effective warrior.

Significance
