Even darkness is transparent to God. Night and day are the same to Him—He sees everything whether it's hidden in shadow or exposed in light.
This completes the thought. The darkness you think could hide you? It doesn't. To God, darkness is as visible as daylight. There's no shadow where you could disappear.

John would later write that God is light and in Him there is no darkness at all—this psalmist is expressing the same reality through different imagery.
Even darkness itself possesses no concealing power from God's sight; to Him all illumination is equal, for darkness and light are indistinguishable in His perception.
The negation גַּם־חֹשֶׁךְ לֹא־יַחְשִׁיךְ מִמְּךָ (gam-choshek lo-yachshik mimkha)—'even darkness will not be dark from You'—employs a figura etymologica (the repetition of a word's root) to emphasize the utter inadequacy of darkness as concealment. The verb חָשַׁךְ (chashak), appearing in both noun and verb forms, creates a rhetorical knot: darkness itself cannot darken in the presence of divine sight. The concluding assertion that 'darkness is as light to You' represents what medieval theologians would call the 'simultaneity of vision'—God's knowledge transcends temporal and spatial categories. This verse reaches the psalm's theological apex: the complete annihilation of any concealing medium.

This anticipates John's Christological assertion that 'the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it' (John 1:5).
