You've experienced God's goodness firsthand—He's been faithful to His word about caring for you, and you know it.
The psalmist isn't theorizing about God. He's lived through affliction, enemies, and trials, and he can testify: God kept His promise. Whatever God said He would do, He did. This is lived experience, not wishful thinking.

This is the testimony that runs through all of Scripture—from Abraham waiting for Isaac, to Israel coming out of Egypt, to the disciples seeing Jesus risen. God's word isn't empty; it comes true. You can stake your life on it.
The speaker affirms that God has demonstrated goodness to him in accordance with His promises—a declaration of fidelity that strengthens faith despite ongoing difficulty.
The psalmist invokes the covenant formula: 'according to Your word' (כִּדְבָרְךָ, kidvarcha) means that God's goodness is not arbitrary but covenantally bound—He acts in keeping with His declared promises to His people. The 'servant' (עַבְדְּךָ, avdecha) assumes the posture of vassal obedience that grounds the right to claim God's protection. This is the theology of the faithful remnant: despite affliction, the covenant holds.

This echoes David's confidence in the Psalms of trust (Psalm 23) and finds fuller expression in Hebrews 10:23—the believer's hope rests upon the immutability of God's promises, not on changing circumstances.
