This is the opening statement of the longest psalm in the Bible, and it sets the tone for everything that follows. The writer is addressing people who want to live well, not just exist. In ancient Israel, "the Law of the LORD" wasn't seen as oppressive rules but as a gift—instructions for how to live the way you were designed to live.
This entire psalm is traditionally attributed to David, though it may have been compiled or expanded over time. It reads like personal testimony mixed with teaching.
This connects to the whole biblical narrative about blessing—from Abraham being blessed to be a blessing, through Israel receiving the Law at Sinai as a gift, all the way to Jesus teaching that obedience flows from love.
