Textile work was one of the primary ways women generated household income in ancient times. It wasn't menial; it was skilled labor. The detail about her hands and the distaff and spindle shows she's proficient at something that took training and practice.

Work that seems ordinary—making cloth—is dignified throughout Scripture. In Exodus, the women who wove the tabernacle curtains were doing sacred work. Here, the everyday work of spinning is presented as worthy and valuable.
