A good tree simply cannot produce bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot produce good fruit. Nature doesn't lie.
Jesus is removing all the gray area: over time, what you really are will become undeniably clear.

This is comforting and challenging at the same time: your life will tell the truth about your heart.
Jesus intensifies the principle: it is impossible (ou dynatai) for a good tree to bear bad fruit or vice versa, eliminating any middle ground between authentic and counterfeit faith.
The impossibility language (ou dynatai) makes this an absolute principle, not merely a tendency or likelihood.

18A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit.
19Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.
20So then, by their fruit you will recognize them.
