Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Matthew 5:4 · Berean Standard Bible
Blessed are those who grieve, because God will comfort them. Your tears are not wasted. God sees every one, and He promises to meet you in your sorrow.
When you're mourning, the last thing you feel is blessed. But Jesus promises that grief opens a door to a comfort deeper than anything the world can offer.
Jesus continues the Beatitudes.
God doesn't avoid pain. He enters it. And He promises that those who mourn won't mourn forever.
Those who mourn (penthountes, the strongest Greek word for grief) are promised paraklethesontai (divine comfort). This reflects Isaiah 61:1-3, where the Messiah comforts those who mourn in Zion.
The mourning likely encompasses both personal grief and lament over the broken state of the world and Israel's spiritual condition. It is active sorrow, not passive resignation.

Jesus promises that grief is not the final word. Those who weep now will receive the comfort that only God can give.
2and He began to teach them, saying:
3“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
5Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.
6Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
