Jesus travels from Galilee to the Jordan (approximately 60 miles) specifically to be baptized by John. His initiative (paraginetai, arrives/appears) indicates deliberate purpose, not coincidence.

Language and setting

Jesus's request for a baptism of repentance is theologically paradoxical since He was sinless (2 Corinthians 5:21). His baptism represents solidarity with sinful humanity, not personal repentance.
