The eleven remaining disciples made their way to the mountain in Galilee where Jesus had told them to go.
It says 'eleven' now, not twelve. Judas was gone. But the others obeyed and went to meet Jesus exactly where He said He'd be.
Matthew describes the disciples' journey to meet the risen Jesus at the appointed location.
They were fewer than before, and everything had changed. But they went where Jesus said to go. Sometimes faithfulness means simply showing up at the place He told you to be.
The eleven remaining disciples (hendeka, reflecting Judas' absence) traveled to the designated mountain in Galilee where Jesus had arranged to meet them.
The specification of 'eleven' rather than 'twelve' is a sober reminder of Judas' betrayal and death, while the mountain setting evokes other key Matthean revelations (the Sermon on the Mount, the Transfiguration).
Matthew narrates the disciples' obedient journey to the appointed meeting place in Galilee.
Mountains in Matthew are places of divine revelation and encounter. By summoning His disciples to a Galilean mountain, Jesus chose a setting befitting the monumental commission He was about to deliver.
