Jesus makes an extraordinary claim: 'Heaven and earth will pass away' (pareleusetai), but 'My words will never pass away' (ou mē parelthōsin). He elevates His own words above the permanence of creation itself — a claim to divine authority, since only God's word endures forever (Isa 40:8).

Language and setting

This statement implicitly claims deity: if only God's word is eternal (Ps 119:89), and Jesus' words are eternal, Jesus shares in the divine nature. It also guarantees the fulfillment of every prophecy He has spoken.
