Jesus doesn't respond at all. His disciples, annoyed by her persistence, want Him to send her away. The silence must have been agonizing for her.
Have you ever felt like God is silent? This woman's experience shows that silence isn't always rejection. Sometimes God is drawing out deeper faith.

The silence is deafening, but the woman doesn't give up. Her story teaches us that persistence in prayer matters, even when heaven seems quiet.
Jesus' initial silence (ouk apekrithē autē logon, 'did not answer her a word') creates narrative tension. The disciples' request apoluson autēn ('send her away') is ambiguous: it could mean dismiss her or grant her request to make her leave.
Jesus' silence is atypical and serves a literary purpose: it draws out and tests the woman's persistence. The disciples' irritation contrasts with the woman's determination.

Jesus' silence and the disciples' annoyance make this a deeply uncomfortable scene. But the silence is not rejection; it is a stage for faith to shine.
