Jesus wrapped up by saying, 'Salt is good, but if it loses its flavor, how will you make it salty again? Keep the salt in yourselves and be at peace with each other.'
Stay real, stay faithful, and stop competing with each other. That's the essence of what Jesus was saying — be genuine in your faith and gracious with one another.
Jesus gives a final, practical instruction.
After all the intense warnings, Jesus ends with something simple: be real and be kind to each other. Faith that's lost its flavor is useless, and a community without peace is broken.
Salt that loses its 'saltiness' (analon genētai) becomes useless and irrecoverable. The exhortation to 'have salt among yourselves and be at peace' links internal spiritual vitality with communal harmony.
This closing saying ties together the chapter's themes: the salt of faithful discipleship must be maintained, and the community must be characterized by peace rather than rivalry (cf. v.34).
