The scholarly reading

The woman comes forward 'trembling in fear' (phobethеisa kai tremousa), knowing (eidyia) what happened to her. Her prostration and full confession (pasan ten aletheian) fulfill Jesus' purpose: public testimony replaces secret shame.

Language and setting

Her fear likely stems from multiple sources: public exposure of her unclean condition, the transgression of touching someone while impure, and awe at the miraculous healing. Her 'whole truth' becomes her testimony.

33Then the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell down before Him trembling in fear, and she told Him the whole truth.

34“Daughter,” said Jesus, “your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be free of your affliction.”

35While He was still speaking, messengers from the house of Jairus arrived and said, “Your daughter is dead; why bother the Teacher anymore?”
