Let no one on the housetop go back inside to retrieve anything from his house. Mark 13:15 · Berean Standard Bible
If you're on the rooftop when it happens, don't even go back inside to grab your things. Just go.
Jesus painted a picture of absolute urgency. When the moment comes, nothing you own is worth the time it takes to retrieve it.
Jesus continues His urgent instructions.
This is survival language. Jesus is saying: your life is more valuable than anything in your house. When the time comes, let it all go.
The urgency of flight is emphasized by the prohibition against descending from the flat housetop (via the interior) to retrieve possessions — external stairway flight only.
Palestinian houses had flat roofs used for daily activities, with both interior and exterior stairs; Jesus commands using the fastest escape route.
