The guards give the most honest answer possible: No one has ever spoken the way this man speaks. They were sent to arrest Him and ended up in awe of Him instead.
These were tough, professional temple guards, not easily impressed. And yet Jesus' words stopped them in their tracks.
The temple guards answer their superiors with words that have echoed through history.
Imagine being so moved by someone's words that you cannot do your job. That is what happened to these guards. They went to arrest Jesus and came back transformed by what they heard.
The officers give a stunning testimony: oudepote elalēsen houtōs anthrōpos (never has a person spoken like this), a spontaneous acknowledgment of Jesus' unprecedented authority that inadvertently echoes the crowd's messianic speculation.
The officers were hupēretai, temple police trained and authorized by the Sanhedrin. Their testimony is remarkable because these were not sympathizers but professionals overwhelmed by the power of Jesus' words.

45Then the officers returned to the chief priests and Pharisees, who asked them, “Why didn’t you bring Him in?”
46“Never has anyone spoken like this man!” the officers answered.
47“Have you also been deceived?” replied the Pharisees.
48“Have any of the rulers or Pharisees believed in Him?
