He didn't need anyone to tell Him about human nature — He already knew what was in every person's heart.
You can't fool Jesus. He sees past your public face to your real heart. But here's the good news: He loves you anyway.
John reveals that Jesus has divine knowledge of every human heart.
He knew them — the good, the bad, the hidden parts. And He knows you too. Every thought, every motive, every secret. And He still chose to love you.
Jesus needed no one to testify about human nature, for He Himself knew what was in a person (Greek: ti ēn en tō anthrōpō).
This statement of Jesus' omniscient knowledge of the human heart sets up the Nicodemus encounter in chapter 3. Jesus knows what lies within every person — a divine attribute (cf. 1 Samuel 16:7, Jeremiah 17:10).
The evangelist attributes to Jesus the divine ability to know the human heart.
The chapter ends by ascribing to Jesus a knowledge that belongs to God alone — the ability to see into the human heart. This divine insight governs His interactions with every person He encounters.
