Water Into Wine

Jesus answered, 'Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days.'
They thought He was talking about the building. He was talking about Himself. The greatest sign of His authority would be His own resurrection.
Jesus gives a mysterious answer that no one understood at the time.
It sounded crazy — rebuild the temple in three days? But He wasn't talking about stone and mortar. He was pointing to something far greater: His own body, destroyed and raised.
Jesus responds with the enigmatic statement: 'Destroy this temple (Greek: naon, the inner sanctuary) and in three days I will raise it up.'
Jesus shifts from hieron (temple complex, v.14) to naos (the inner sanctuary/dwelling place of God), a deliberate change pointing to His own body as God's true dwelling. The 'three days' anticipates the resurrection.
Jesus issues a cryptic prophecy about the destruction and raising of the 'temple.'
Jesus answers their demand for a sign with the ultimate sign — His own death and resurrection. The temple of His body will be destroyed and raised, superseding the stone temple they revere.
17His disciples remembered that it is written: “Zeal for Your house will consume Me.”
18On account of this, the Jews demanded, “What sign can You show us to prove Your authority to do these things?”
19Jesus answered, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up again.”
20“This temple took forty-six years to build,” the Jews replied, “and You are going to raise it up in three days?”
21But Jesus was speaking about the temple of His body.
