Arrested in the Garden
So He asked them again, “Whom are you seeking?” John 18:7 · Berean Standard Bible
After they pick themselves up off the ground, Jesus calmly asks again: 'Who are you looking for?' Same answer: 'Jesus of Nazareth.'
Jesus' composure here is remarkable. He just knocked them all down with a word, and now He's patiently walking them through the process of His own arrest.
Jesus repeats His question to the soldiers.
The soldiers dust themselves off and face Jesus again. He asks the same question with perfect calm. He's in no rush—He's been preparing for this His entire life.
Jesus repeats His question, 'Whom are you seeking?' and receives the same answer, demonstrating His composed control throughout the arrest.
The repetition underscores Jesus' sovereign composure. Even after demonstrating divine power that prostrated the soldiers, He allows the arrest to proceed according to the Father's plan.

After the soldiers recover, Jesus calmly repeats His question. The exchange emphasizes that Jesus is managing the entire encounter, not reacting to it.
5“Jesus of Nazareth,” they answered.
6When Jesus said, “I am He,” they drew back and fell to the ground.
7So He asked them again, “Whom are you seeking?”
8“I told you that I am He,” Jesus replied. “So if you are looking for Me, let these men go.”
9This was to fulfill the word He had spoken: “I have not lost one of those You have given Me.”
