Jesus says the world will know you are His followers by one thing: your love for each other. Not your knowledge, not your achievements, but your love.
This is both an incredible promise and a serious challenge. The authenticity of your faith is measured by how you love the people around you, especially other believers.
Jesus identifies the one thing that will mark His followers in the eyes of the world.
If you want people to know you follow Jesus, this is the way: love each other. Not perfectly, but genuinely. Not always easily, but persistently. The world is watching, and what convinces them is not arguments but the love they see between Christ's people.
Mutual love is identified as the distinguishing mark (gnōsontai) of true discipleship. The visibility of Christian love serves as an apologetic witness to the watching world.
This verse makes love the primary apologetic for the faith. The community's mutual love is the evidence by which outsiders will recognize Christ's disciples, surpassing miracles, doctrine, or moral achievement.

Jesus establishes love, not doctrine, miracles, or moral performance, as the identifier of His followers. The world will recognize Christ's disciples by the quality of their relationships with one another. Love is the ultimate apologetic.

34A new commandment I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you also must love one another.
35By this everyone will know that you are My disciples, if you love one another.”
