Jesus completes the qal wahomer: if mere recipients of God's word can be called gods, how much more the One whom the Father 'hēgiasen' (sanctified/set apart) and 'apesteilen' (sent) into the world?

Language and setting

The verbs 'sanctified' and 'sent' echo Hanukkah themes of dedication and mission. Jesus claims a unique divine commissioning that far surpasses the judges of Psalm 82.

Jesus applies the scriptural argument to Himself as the uniquely sanctified and sent One.
