1 John 5:13, in plain English

I've written all of this to you who already believe in Jesus so that you'd have absolute certainty: you actually possess eternal life right now, not just someday.

Why it's here

John is giving assurance to believers who might be anxious or doubting in the face of false teaching. They needed to know that their faith was solid, that they weren't on shaky ground, that they genuinely had what Jesus promised.
