You're foolish if you don't understand this basic truth: a seed doesn't grow into a plant unless it first dies in the ground.
Paul uses nature as his teacher. He's not being harsh by calling someone foolish—he's saying the answer to 'how can something dead come back?' is all around you if you just look.

Paul employs agricultural analogy, one of the most powerful in Mediterranean culture. The term 'fool' (aphron) is harsh but pedagogically intentional — the questioner is missing an obvious truth available in nature. The verb sperō (to sow) and apothnēskō (to die) show that the seed's death is prerequisite to life. This is not escape from matter but transformation of matter. The analogy addresses the key objection: yes, the body dies, but death is not final — it's the doorway.
