The Resurrection

Everyone dies because of Adam, but everyone who belongs to Jesus will be brought back to life through Him. Death is universal, but so is Christ's power to restore.
The Corinthians needed to understand the scale of what Paul was claiming. This wasn't just about a few lucky people getting a second chance—this was about the entire trajectory of humanity being reversed through Christ.

This is the heart of the gospel applied to the end times. Where Adam's disobedience spread death to all humanity, Christ's obedience spreads life to all who trust Him. It's the great exchange.
Adam's disobedience brought universal death to humanity; Christ's obedience brings universal resurrection life to all who are in Him.
The Corinthians were fractured believers — some denying bodily resurrection, perhaps influenced by incipient Gnosticism or the sophistic rhetoric prevalent in Corinth. Paul hammers home the participatory logic: 'in Adam' (en tō Adam) versus 'in Christ' (en tō Christō). These aren't mere labels but covenantal spheres of existence. To be 'in Adam' means participation in his fallen nature; to be 'in Christ' means participation in his resurrected life.

This verse sits at the hinge of biblical history — it shows how Christ's resurrection is not an isolated supernatural event but the definitive reversal of the Fall. Irenaeus would later call this recapitulation (anakephalaiōsis); it's the cosmic healing of what Adam's trespass broke.
20But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.
21For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man.
22For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive.
23But each in his own turn: Christ the firstfruits; then at His coming, those who belong to Him.
24Then the end will come, when He hands over the kingdom to God the Father after He has destroyed all dominion, authority, and power.
