In Genesis 1, humans were given plants for food. The Bible is silent on whether meat-eating happened before the flood. Now, explicitly and for the first time in Scripture, God approves eating animals. This is a significant shift, possibly because the vegetation may not be fully restored yet after the flood's devastation.
