Jacob tells his sons to go back to Egypt and buy more food, not realizing how impossible he's about to make their situation.
Jacob is still the patriarch, still giving orders. But he has no idea that the Egyptian official—Joseph, his own son—has given strict instructions that they can't come back without Benjamin. Jacob thinks it's simple: go buy food, come home. His sons know better, and they're about to have to tell him something he won't want to hear.

Jacob doesn't know his favorite son is alive. He thinks Benjamin is all he has left of Rachel. This command is going to force a confrontation with his deepest fears.
Jacob commands his sons to return to Egypt for more grain, unaware of the condition Joseph has imposed regarding Benjamin's appearance.
Jacob speaks from pragmatic necessity, treating this as a simple commercial transaction. The phrase 'a little more food' (מְעַט־אֹכֶל, m'at-ochel) reveals either optimism about modest needs or a father's reluctance to acknowledge how dire circumstances have become. He operates from the assumption that commerce can continue as before.
