The phrase וַיִּיטַב הַדָּבָר בְּעֵינֵי חֲמוֹר וּבְעֵינֵי שְׁכֶם (vayitav hadavar b'eynei Chamor u'v'eynei Shechem, 'the proposal pleased Hamor and Shechem') indicates they have accepted the sons' terms without apparent suspicion. They interpret circumcision as a reasonable ceremonial price for territorial settlement and family merger.
