Remember, Abraham spent his whole life as a sojourner in Canaan, living in tents. He didn't own the land—he was a foreigner in it. But he bought this cave from the Hittites so he'd have a burial place for his family. That one purchased cave represented his faith that God would give the land to his descendants, even though he himself only owned this small piece.
