Why it's here

By now the Galatians were probably tired. Being a young church dealing with outside pressure and internal conflict, trying to live faithfully in a pagan culture—it was wearing. Paul's giving them fuel to keep going: the harvest is coming, you just have to not quit before you see it.

Language and setting

Paul recognizes the fatigue endemic to countercultural Christian life in Galatia. The pressure to conform to Judaizing demands, the uncertainty about their standing before God after rejecting Torah—these create *kopia* (weariness). Yet Paul promises that this labor is not futile (*kenē*) if they persist (*egkakeo*—literally, 'lose courage'). The *kairos* (appointed time) signals divine timing, not human exhaustion, determines harvest.

Significance

This echoes the Psalmist's confidence in divine vindication (Ps 126) while applying it to the sustained moral effort required of Christians. John Chrysostom would later elaborate this as the 'martyrdom of the heart'—the daily resistance to despair that constitutes spiritual warfare.

7Do not be deceived: God is not to be mocked. Whatever a man sows, he will reap in return.

8The one who sows to please his flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; but the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.

9Let us not grow weary in well-doing, for in due time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
