The cupbearer to the Persian king who received permission to return to Jerusalem and rebuild its broken walls. A man of prayer, strategic thinking, and courageous leadership, Nehemiah organized the rebuilding effort in just 52 days despite fierce opposition from Sanballat and Tobiah. He armed the builders with swords while they worked with one hand and built with the other. Nehemiah also enacted social reforms, addressing economic exploitation of the poor and restoring Sabbath observance.

Nehemiah asks Artaxerxes for letters, lumber, and leave. The king grants it all. Then Nehemiah rides out at night to inspect the broken walls alone.
So the wall was completed in fifty-two days, on the twenty-fifth of Elul. When all our enemies heard about this, all the surrounding nations were afraid and disheartened, for they realized that this task had been accomplished by our God.
Enemies try intimidation, deception, and false prophets. Nehemiah refuses every distraction. Fifty-two days — and the wall is done. Even the enemies are afraid.
