When Canaanite commander Sisera oppressed Israel for twenty years, Deborah summoned the warrior Barak and prophesied victory, though she warned that the glory would go to a woman. The resulting battle and Sisera’s defeat by Jael fulfilled her words. Deborah’s song of victory in Judges 5 is one of the oldest poems in the Bible.
